Hello Barcelona!

From 26 of February to 1 March, Happyland was presented in front of the world of Mobile and Startups at #4YFN during the Mobile World Congress! 4YFN is startup business platform of Mobile World Capital that enables startups, investors and corporations to connect and launch new ventures together. Amazing! Exactly as their moto says, we were inspired, we were amazed.

Together with our fellow Greek indie game developers companies, Gemcraft Games and Traptics as part of the Greek delegation we had the chance to see from up close how mobile business works! Even though it is not common for games’ industry companies to be there, we were welcomed by everyone. People would come, play our games, discuss with us, give feedback, detect things we wouldn’t have had, share ideas, give advice on business and reveal tips and tricks! It was an extraordinary experience through which we were enriched with valuable information on how to get our business to the next level.

Lesson Learned, Vol. 5:
This is a lesson we re-learned. We were informed that we will be going to Spain 15 days before departure, meaning we didn’t make it to any deadline for the opportunities given by the event, one of which was pitching in the Discovery Area, but we decided to give a go and asked kindly from the incredible organizer Charlotte Rovito if we could have 5 minutes on stage. She and her amazing team made it happen for us and things had a different turn after that both for us and for the teams of our booth! So, ask! Nice, kindly, be prepared to lose with dignity, but remember to always ask! People and life can surprise you!

Once again a big thank you to Alex Koxaras of Origins of Audio for his incredible music in GO HEROES: Prometheus 🙂

Happy Jammers 2018!

Once again GLOBAL GAME JAM time arrived!
Happyland was there to jam! This year together with Andromahi Tyrou for the sound and as it turned out also in level design! We have developed a puzzle mobile game for which we are more than exhited!

Lesson Learned, Vol.5: What we know as a fact after all the jams we have been in, is the importance to open up to other developers! Keep the desktops, desks and notes open and even an empty chair to put next to yours to allow people to come and watch you work and invite them to exchange knowledge!

Labour Game Jam in Athens

On 15 of December 2017 we participated in Labour Game Jam, held at Goethe Institut Athens and supported by the program Creative Europe. It was a different jam and a very interesting experience for which we had to explore our previous working experience. Marinos, remembered his college days, when he would ride his motorcycle all over Athens during university as a courier and he wanted to share his memories and make a game out of those days.

Labour Game Jam was organised to examine how games can assist the working field. Not only as a way to make people work harder but even communicate and address problems. We searched in our own experiences to find inspiration during our college years and decided to create a story about delivery-boys, an occupation which as it turns out is not anymore just a part-time job for far too many people.
So we built Delivery Star, a runner, decision maker, voxel art 🙂
We “borrowed” some photos from #LabourGames (@happyland-entertainment Instagram)

Lessons learned vol. 4:
a) Sometimes things just don’t work, so be happy with what you have. Marinos has a say “Just a Miracle per day” meaning we can’t always be as efficient as we would like, but it is ok.
b) Old stuff can work really good; with that said please enjoy an old synthesis of our dear friend Dimitris Papadopoulos, an excellent musician. So, remember to take good care of your files!!!
